I've decided that for my own sanity I'm going to resist (as much as possible) the big wooden picture books. I'm getting really tired of looking for the number 3 that is ALWAYS hiding behind big bird's tail. ALWAYS. So now I'm going to turn off all the lights in the room, except for one reading light pointed over my shoulder, have all the girls lying down in one bed, and I'm going to read them stories that are well written and engaging for all of us. The first book on the list is my old favourite from when I first read it in grade 5. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. I’ve loved this book since the first time I read it. If you haven’t had the chance to read it yourself or are looking for some great bedtime material, take a gander at this one. It’s definitely worth owning.

Well the bus didn’t come (rumour has it it actually did show up, but 45 minutes late) so we had a good father/daughter drive into school. We had to explore a bit to find her new classroom too. But all is well. I had no idea what her teacher was saying to her when we finally did find the classroom, but Nina’s french hasn’t faded over the summer so she happily jumped into the classroom and entered day one of grade two.

The pictures are all just walking to and waiting for the bus that never came. I guess you can’t take pictures at the school. Legal this, legal that.

One down, two more to go.

Usually the kids get to pick what treat they get for breakfast in bed on their birthday. It's either Cinnabon (tm) or Cupcakes. Nina picked Cupcakes. Usually that involves a cake mix and a can of Betty Crocker (tm) icing. Usually it can be done in under an hour in the silence of the night when the cherubs are fast asleep and daddy can relax and enjoy the quiet of the night. Usually. No related posts. Tonight however, Nina insisted helping. She insisted on being charge. She insisted on rainbows and bowls, sorry, make that five separate piping bags filled with multi-coloured icing. She insisted on big cupcakes and small cupcakes and this and that and “Daddy, this is the best night I’ve ever had. I feel like you’re my maid. I kind of feel bad that you’re doing all this work for me. This is the best night of my life.” – a quote verbatim. No lie, no exaggeration.

Yah. That’s my 6 year old turning 7 tomorrow. Enjoy the one that got away and the rest that left me planning the precedent that has now been set for every single fricken birthday to ever come for all three girls and likely Sheyna.

Yes. Brad is a dad.
