Well the bus didn’t come (rumour has it it actually did show up, but 45 minutes late) so we had a good father/daughter drive into school. We had to explore a bit to find her new classroom too. But all is well. I had no idea what her teacher was saying to her when we finally did find the classroom, but Nina’s french hasn’t faded over the summer so she happily jumped into the classroom and entered day one of grade two.

The pictures are all just walking to and waiting for the bus that never came. I guess you can’t take pictures at the school. Legal this, legal that.

One down, two more to go.

Tonight however, Nina insisted helping. She insisted on being charge. She insisted on rainbows and bowls, sorry, make that five separate piping bags filled with multi-coloured icing. She insisted on big cupcakes and small cupcakes and this and that and “Daddy, this is the best night I’ve ever had. I feel like you’re my maid. I kind of feel bad that you’re doing all this work for me. This is the best night of my life.” – a quote verbatim. No lie, no exaggeration.

Yah. That’s my 6 year old turning 7 tomorrow. Enjoy the one that got away and the rest that left me planning the precedent that has now been set for every single fricken birthday to ever come for all three girls and likely Sheyna.

Yes. Brad is a dad.

We made it out in the morning and early afternoon and then when the rain started we came home for a movie/supper break before returning for the evening. There was some crying when we informed our drained and tired children that they would not be taking in the fireworks this year, but a short business bath and pajama run later and we were all tucked snug in our beds sleeping like the Canada Day junkies we all are.

We’ve done a lot and had a lot of fun doing it.

Yesterday we went to a movie (Night at the Snoozeum 2). It was my way of saying thanks to the girls for being so well behaved while Sheyna has been away. However, I think a lot of their good behaviour has to do with the fact that they are all hopped up on allergy medication and too tired to put up a fight. (note to self – chapter 14 of my parenting book – “On Good Behaviour: How to sedate your child without breaking any laws”).

I apologize to the 15 people who have been checking back here for updates. I’ve just been too tired to edit video and process pictures. I have about 500 more pictures to sift through and 30 more video’s to cut and edit, but frankly, I just don’t see that happening. Between work, parenting, watching back episodes of last year’s tv shows and procrastinating from putting the kids to bed, there just isn’t time in the day for the public exhibition of my trivial daily routines.

But yet, even as I write I feel inspired.

Nope. Feeling past.
